On the day the Ezaris Kingdom fell under the shadow of the Beast-Devils, Gilzenth had removed her Vision-Seal and slipped into the subterranean levels of the High Sanctum of Vellam, disguised as a mere tourist.

From the depths of the earth, she had sharpened her Divine Pulse, “observing” Linkaje’s battle on the surface through her sensory perception alone.

She had watched Linkaje’s psychokinesis, which handled massive Regaleum greatswords as if they were feathers. She had seen her sensory range, capable of countering two elite Maidens at once. Touched by the blood of monsters, Linkaje’s physical prowess was superhuman, her body even capable of grotesque self-repair.

“But… even that isn’t enough,” Gilzenth whispered.

Currently reclining in a stone bath, Gilzenth closed her eyes. Moonlight spilled through the window, silvering her wet skin. From the adjoining room, the rhythmic breathing of several men and women—exhausted from the night’s revelry—drifted in.

The Thrall-Arts used to command Beast-Devils were formidable, certainly. However, the drain on one’s Divine Pulse to maintain control over such creatures was far too taxing.

But with the Spirit-Merge

If a Maiden were not merely to command a beast, but to fuse with it—becoming a single entity—she could wield the full, unmitigated power of the monster as her own.

With this dark ambition in mind, Gilzenth had already dispatched Maiden Zeisig and her squad to recover the sacred artifacts required for the ritual.

All that remained was the beast itself. It had to be powerful. A pinnacle of its kind.

Gilzenth had set her sights on Elzenag, the creature heralded in legend as the Avatar of the Divine Beast. Myths claimed that an apostle of Ioks, the God of Wisdom, had sealed it away in a long-forgotten subterranean temple centuries ago.

She would need a Maiden to serve as the vessel for the fusion, but that was a minor detail. Such things could always be arranged.

“This is going to be delightful,”

Gilzenth murmured.

She slowly opened her eyes. In the velvet darkness of the room, her vibrant emerald-green irises glowed with a predatory brilliance.
