“Wait! You’re not going in alone, are you?”

Ldolza ignored Mousel’s frantic cry, kicking off the earth and surging into the sky. Flanking her were two massive, custom Chainsaw-type Blitz units—engines of slaughter she had maintained with obsessive care for this very moment.

A mid-sized Beast-Devil had appeared on the Eyston Plains, carving a path of cinders toward the capital, Batlig. Upon hearing the scout’s report, Ldolza had vanished from the Holy Maidens’ quarters without a single word. A mid-sized beast wielding fire was a threat that demanded a three-maiden cell, but Ldolza was beyond caution.

“I need to report this… but will I be in time?” Mousel whispered, looking up at a sky choked with ash-gray clouds. She feared that by the time she reached Queen Vyzoa, Ldolza would be nothing but a memory.

Ldolza shifted her Vision-Seal, spotting a patch of burning crimson in the distance. At its center stood a towering black silhouette.

Found you.

She ground her teeth, the taste of copper in her mouth. She had waited a lifetime for this. Accelerating her flight with her Divine Pulse, the silhouette grew into a nightmare: those hideous, glowing red eyes. The exact same eyes that had haunted her dreams for a decade.

The beast, Girelgal, sensed the human’s approach. It drew a deep, rattling breath and exhaled a torrent of flame. Ldolza spiraled through the heat, flanking the monster and bringing her twin saws down with a primal shriek.

“DIE! JUST DIE!”

The high-pitched scream was barely human. The high-speed chains tore into the beast’s obsidian hide, sending sprays of dark, viscous ichor into the air. Girelgal let out a harrowing roar.

The image of her father, burned alive, flashed behind her eyes.

“I’ll kill you! I’ll carve you into nothing!”

The twin Blitz units shredded the monster’s flesh. This was the fruit of her agony—the years of training until these heavy, vibrating engines felt like extensions of her own limbs.

Girelgal thrashed, swinging razor-claws and spewing fire in a blind frenzy. Narrowly evading the heat, Ldolza locked her sights on the beast’s jugular.

“RAAAAAGGHHH!”

Just as the metal teeth bit through the scales of the neck, a crimson spray erupted from Ldolza’s eyes and ears.

The cost had come due. The long-distance flight, the simultaneous control of two heavy-class Blitz units, and the over-exhaustion of her Aetheric Empathy had pushed her body past the breaking point. Capillaries in her brain shattered, painting the air with her own blood.

Ldolza’s strength vanished for a single, fatal heartbeat. Girelgal did not miss it. An arm as thick as a tree trunk slammed into her slight frame, crushing her into the dirt.

“Ah… ugh…”

She groaned, struggling to rise, but her legs were leaden. She heard the wet, heavy intake of breath as the beast prepared to finish her.
